Two Girls a Year Older

These girls are both a year older. Haylee loved the umbrella. I think she would have it constantly if I let her.
This was the morning of her birthday. They were both so excited!
We had everyone over in our backyard and it was actually comfortable.
Whitney's birthday was a swim party at which I didn't take any pictures. Mom and dad had to leave before her birthday so we had a little gift opening celebration with them early.

If these girls grow up to be exceptional, it will be due to their own talents and efforts. It is at times like birthdays when I have a chance to reflect and I realize that they are making me a better person more than I am helping them. They are little stars shining brightly and I worry that I might mess them up! Oh I wish I could have practiced more before I became a parent. It takes seven years to become a proficient teacher and we only get one shot at parenthood (at least with our oldest) even though it lasts for 18 years. Every day is a new adventure. I just hope I can kick myself in the pants enough to make the most of it rather than letting it waste away. Maybe a bit dramatic but that's how I feel!

Amanda, you are so fabulous! I wish we still lived close so i could rely on you more to show me what I'm supposed to do. I try to tell myself I am not failing as a mom, but most the time I don't really believe that. It is tough sometimes, but for the record, your girls are lucky to have YOU and if they turn out just like you, they would be even luckier.
